Dewalt XR FLEXVOLT: Corded Power in a Cordless System

Dewalt’s new release in 2016, the FLEXVOLT system, made global headlines across the building and construction market. ‘Power of Corded, Freedom of Cordless’ the slogan of the revolutionary FLEXVOLT system is a hint of what Dewalt have been able to achieve through new technological advancements in their battery and tool configurations.

What is FLEXVOLT?

According to Dewalt; “XR FLEXVOLT is a range of 54V power tools that offer runtime and performance that has never been seen before – for the first time, professional tradesmen can reliably undertake heavy-duty construction applications without the need for mains power.

This innovation means that tradie’s can have 54V power across a whole range of tools without the inconvenience of a cable. DEWALT XR FLEXVOLT is the only battery on the market that can switch from 54V to 18V, making it backward-compatible with your existing XR powertools.” (http://www.dewalt.co.nz/xrflexvolt/)

Sounds like a winner to us, and the proof was in the pudding when we tested them out! Plenty of grunt throughout the range, we tested them with the help of the team at Dewalt Australia and were impressed with what we saw and tried.

Since the system has been out for a bit of time now tradie’s are able to catch a few reviews online, mostly international, but they will give you a pretty good indication of where the tool is at versus its competitors.

At the moment 7 tools are available in the 54V range; 210mm Table Saw, 216mm Mitre Saw, 184mm Circular Saw, 125mm Angle Grinder, Reciprocating Saw, Alligator Saw and the Plunge Cut Saw. Dewalt have said there are more tools to come, but they will only be tools that need the sort of power a 54V battery can give them. We’ll have more updates on new FLEXVOLT tools as soon as we hear about them!
